• We believe that every student deserves to be a part of a learning community that is respectful, kind, fair, encouraging, and empowering towards everyone.
• We believe in creating a learning environment in which everyone is treated equally, and where all achievements are celebrated.
• We will strive to foster a love for reading, an enthusiasm for writing, and a desire to consider possibilities as we encourage students to learn new and exciting things.
• We will do our best to help students develop a solid foundation of essential skills to build upon throughout their school career and beyond.
• We will encourage and empower students to be proactive in their own studies, and to feel a sense of responsibility for their own education.
• We will guide students as they develop skill sets that will enable them to grow to be well-rounded individuals who aspire to do their personal best, and achieve their full potential.
•We believe that leaning into a student-led learning style offers both the learners, and their literacy coach, valuable opportunities to grow in a nurturing, encouraging, and creative environment.
•We wholeheartedly recognize that every learner brings their own interests and life experiences to the table, that will give them unique insights, thoughts, and opinions, which they will be encouraged to share as they delve into literature, and explore new ideas.
•We realize that as a literacy coach we have a tremendous responsibility to guide our learners, and support them as they navigate literary selections, and explore them through hands-on activities. It is our honor and privilege to do so.
•We believe that student-led learning is an incredibly powerful learning style. This approach to literacy sets learners up for success by making learning fun and engaging, while empowering them to develop a love for reading, and a sense of responsibility as they have some control over their own learning. Students become much more invested when they are given the creative freedom to make choices, have a safe space to think on a deeper level, and have meaningful discussions with their peers.
•We also think that this approach to literacy, and learning in general, offers the added benefit of instilling key values such as intrinsic motivation, self-discipline, and genuine curiosity!
